What is a Root Canal?

A root canal infection occurs with the nerve of the tooth is infected or inflamed. Oftentimes, this is caused by bacteria from food or debris entering the inside of the tooth. If you have a broken or fractured tooth or damaged fillings, you might be at higher risk of developing a cavity or root canal. Limit your risks early-on with regular checkups to the dentist.

Root Canal Therapy

Rather than pull a tooth that is infected, your tooth may be restored with root canal therapy. This process involves thoroughly numbing the tooth to alleviate dental pain. The inflamed or dead nerve tissue of the tooth (and the source of your dental pain) is carefully removed through a small hole made in the top surface of the tooth, and the area is then cleaned and disinfected. It is then sealed with a dental filling or crown.

Do I Need a Root Canal?

You may need root canal therapy if:

  • You have a toothache or abscessed tooth
  • A broken or fractured tooth is hurting
  • You’ve noticed swelling and tenderness in the gums
  • You are experiencing moderate to severe tooth sensitivity

What is a Dental Crown?

If a filling is not sufficient to seal a tooth after root canal treatment, a dental crown or “cap” may be used to protect a larger area of the tooth. Our porcelain dental crowns are custom-made to mimic the natural appearance of your teeth. Known for their cosmetic and restorative benefits, they are also used to replace missing teeth with a dental implant or bridge.

Painless Dentistry

Our dentists are well-trained in performing root canals. We utilize the most modern treatments and technologies to be sure this procedure goes smoothly and painlessly. When you’re able to come in with a concern and walk away feeling great, it’s fulfilling to us to see you smile again!

Dental Anxiety

Dental anxiety is not uncommon, and anyone who has a fear of the dentist deals with it in their own way. However, avoiding the dentist altogether may lead to an inevitable restorative visit. If you have been nervous to see the dentist, ask us about our philosophy of gentle dentistry and our anxiety-reducing options at Associated Dentists.
